Marvel Biosciences Corp. (TSXV: MRVL; OTCQB: MBCOF) has signed a letter of intent with clinical research organization Novatech for a planned first-in-human Phase 1 trial of MB-204, its experimental treatment for autism spectrum disorder and other neurodevelopmental conditions.

The company announced on October 6, 2026, that the study is expected to begin in Australia during the fourth quarter. Novatech would provide services covering site selection, regulatory and ethics submissions, trial management, biostatistics, data management and medical writing.

The arrangement remains at the letter-of-intent stage. Marvel has not announced a definitive clinical-services agreement, regulatory or ethics authorization, trial registration or first-patient dosing.

The planned single-ascending-dose study is intended to evaluate MB-204’s safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics, which measure how the drug moves through the body. Marvel also expects to include a potential biomarker and several cognitive endpoints. Results would inform the design of a subsequent multiple-ascending-dose study.

MB-204 is a fluorinated derivative of istradefylline, an adenosine A2A receptor antagonist approved for use in Parkinson’s disease. MB-204 is a separate compound and has not been approved for autism or any other indication.

Marvel has reported preclinical activity in mouse models associated with Oprm1-related behavior, Rett syndrome and Fragile X syndrome. Those animal findings provide the company’s rationale for advancing the candidate but do not establish safety or effectiveness in humans.

The company has also developed a liquid formulation that it says improved MB-204’s pharmacokinetic profile in preclinical testing. The formulation work received support through a National Research Council of Canada grant and may assist patients who have difficulty swallowing solid medication.

“This marks Marvel’s transition from a pre-clinical to clinical phase company,” CEO Rod Matheson said. That transition remains dependent on completing the required agreements and regulatory steps and successfully initiating the study.

Marvel recently closed a non-brokered private placement that generated approximately C$1.60 million in gross proceeds through the issuance of 10.65 million units at C$0.15 each. Each unit contained one common share and one warrant exercisable at C$0.20. Marvel said the proceeds would fund a Phase 1 trial deposit, general expenses and working capital.

The company reported C$434,800 in cash and a C$2.11 million working-capital deficit as of April 30, 2026, before the recent financing. Its filing stated that additional capital would be required to manage liquidity risk.

Confirmed sources include Marvel’s October 6, 2026 corporate announcement, its September 29, 2026 financing announcement and its interim financial statements and management discussion for the period ended April 30, 2026. Information concerning MB-204’s mechanism, preclinical activity, formulation and planned development schedule originated primarily from Marvel and has not been independently validated by Biotech Stocks Daily.

MB-204 remains investigational and has not produced human clinical data. The announced Novatech arrangement is a letter of intent rather than a definitive clinical-services agreement. Marvel has not announced regulatory or ethics authorization, trial registration or participant dosing. Preclinical results from animal models do not establish clinical safety or efficacy, and there is no assurance that the planned trial will begin on schedule or support further development.

Financial information is reported in Canadian dollars and reflects Marvel’s position as of April 30, 2026, unless otherwise stated. Those figures predate the company’s September financing. The financing issued 10.65 million common shares, while its warrants and finder’s warrants could create additional dilution. Marvel reported a working-capital deficit and stated that additional financing would be required to manage liquidity risk.
