Edesa Biotech Inc. (Nasdaq: EDSA) has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance for the Investigational New Drug application supporting its Phase 2 study of EB06 in moderate-to-severe nonsegmental vitiligo.
The October 15 clearance allows the Toronto-based biotechnology company to expand the ongoing study into the United States. Patient recruitment is already underway in Canada, while the first U.S. clinical sites are expected to begin enrolling participants during the first quarter of 2027.
The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study is designed to enroll up to 80 adults. Participants will be assigned equally to receive either EB06 or a placebo every two weeks through Week 22.
The primary efficacy endpoint is the mean percentage change from baseline in the Facial Vitiligo Area Scoring Index at Week 28. Secondary and exploratory measures include facial and total-body disease scores, safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics and immunogenicity.
EB06 is a fully human monoclonal antibody targeting CXCL10, a signaling protein involved in recruiting immune cells that attack melanocytes. Melanocytes produce the pigment responsible for skin color. By inhibiting CXCL10, Edesa intends to interrupt the immune activity associated with melanocyte loss.
The company said EB06 has previously been evaluated in 65 participants across three studies and was generally safe and well tolerated. Those studies, however, do not establish that the candidate is effective in treating vitiligo.
“FDA clearance of our IND represents an important regulatory and operational milestone for our vitiligo program,” CEO Par Nijhawan said.
Edesa expects to report topline Phase 2 results during the fourth quarter of 2027. The company is currently using an intravenous formulation of EB06 and anticipates preparing a subcutaneous version for possible evaluation in subsequent studies.
FDA clearance of an IND permits a clinical study to proceed in the United States. It does not constitute approval of EB06 or confirm that the treatment is safe or effective.
Edesa reported $10.3 million in cash and cash equivalents and $6.9 million in working capital as of June 30, 2026. Its fiscal third-quarter net loss increased to approximately $5.4 million from $1.7 million during the comparable 2025 period, primarily reflecting higher research, manufacturing and study-preparation expenses.
The company subsequently completed a US$25 million public offering on August 21. The financing involved 3,870,500 common shares, pre-funded warrants covering 675,000 shares and accompanying warrants that could create additional dilution if exercised.

Confirmed sources include Edesa’s October 15, 2026 FDA-clearance announcement, its Form 10-Q for the period ended June 30, 2026, its August 19 financing announcement and publicly available confirmation that the offering was completed on August 21. Information concerning EB06’s mechanism, prior safety observations and anticipated development schedule originated primarily from Edesa and has not been independently validated by Biotech Stocks Daily.
EB06 remains investigational and has not received regulatory approval. FDA clearance of an IND permits a clinical study to proceed but does not establish safety, efficacy or a favorable regulatory outcome. The company has not reported efficacy results for EB06 in vitiligo. The Phase 2 study may experience enrollment, safety, manufacturing, regulatory or operational delays, and its results may not support further development.
Financial information reflects Edesa’s position as of June 30, 2026, before completion of the August offering. The June filing identified material uncertainty that could cast substantial doubt on the company’s ability to continue as a going concern. The subsequent offering generated US$25 million in gross proceeds before underwriting costs and other expenses but caused shareholder dilution. Pre-funded and common-share warrants may create additional dilution.
