Rhelion Life Sciences Corp. (CSE: RHEL; OTCQB: TRUFF; FSE: 4YX0) announced on August 27, 2026, that its wholly owned subsidiary Filament Health added a new U.S. patent covering a natural-source psychoactive alkaloid extraction process.

U.S. Patent No. 12,697,564, titled “Dephosphorylation-Controlled Extraction of Phosphorylatable Psychoactive Alkaloids,” was issued on August 4. The patent names Filament subsidiary Psilo Scientific Ltd. as the filer and contains 16 claims.

The protected process involves extracting psychoactive alkaloids from fungal biomass using an acidified methanol-and-water solution. The resulting extract can then be concentrated and standardized to produce a consistent amount of the targeted compounds.

That consistency is important when a drug candidate originates from biological material that can vary between crops. Filament uses proprietary extraction, purification and stabilization methods to manufacture PEX010, its standardized botanical psilocybin candidate.

The patent protects a specific manufacturing process. It does not provide exclusivity over every psilocybin product or extraction method, nor does it establish that PEX010 is safe or effective.

According to Rhelion’s announcement, the company’s portfolio now includes 77 issued patents across 13 patent families. Those patents cover areas such as extraction, purification, stabilization, standardized compositions and drug delivery. The portfolio total and Rhelion’s claim that it holds the broadest natural-psilocybin patent estate have not been independently verified.

Rhelion CEO Todd Shapiro said Filament’s patents protect “how the drug candidate is made, at scale, to GMP.” The company acquired Filament on April 30, bringing PEX010, its manufacturing infrastructure and its clinical-research network under Rhelion.

PEX010 is available in 1-milligram, 5-milligram and 25-milligram doses, with a 0.5-milligram formulation planned. Rhelion says the candidate is supporting more than 80 academic and philanthropic studies worldwide.

On August 25, Filament announced that it had shipped PEX010 for an investigator-initiated Phase 2a study at the University of Washington. The study will evaluate group-based psilocybin therapy for anxiety and depression in people with metastatic solid tumors or incurable blood cancers. Filament is supplying the study drug but is not the trial sponsor.

Rhelion, then operating as Red Light Holland, reported C$8.47 million in cash and C$4.20 million in fiscal 2026 revenue as of March 31. Its adjusted EBITDA loss widened to C$2.93 million. Those figures predate the Filament acquisition and do not represent a full reporting period for the combined company.

Upcoming Catalysts

  • Availability of the planned 0.5-milligram PEX010 formulation
  • Additional patent grants or licensing agreements
  • Progress from investigator-initiated studies using PEX010
  • Financial results reflecting the combined Rhelion and Filament business
  • Regulatory developments involving PEX010 clinical programs
