BriaCell Therapeutics Corp. (TSX: BCT; Nasdaq: BCTX, BCTXL) announced on August 24, 2026, that its Bria-MEL+ personalized melanoma immunotherapy candidate reached a key genetic-engineering milestone. According to the company’s announcement, development activities are underway to support production for potential clinical use.

Bria-MEL+ is a genetically modified, whole-cell cancer vaccine designed to activate both innate and adaptive immune responses against melanoma. The candidate is based on BriaCell’s Bria-OTS+ platform and uses premanufactured cell lines selected through human leukocyte antigen, or HLA, matching.

The company describes the approach as personalized but “off-the-shelf.” A saliva test would be used to match a patient with one of several existing treatment cell lines, avoiding the need to manufacture a separate therapy for every patient. BriaCell has not yet announced a clinical-trial authorization, trial start or human safety and efficacy data for Bria-MEL+.

“Bria-MEL+ is designed to combine the advantages of personalized immunotherapy with the accessibility of an off-the-shelf vaccine,” President and CEO William V. Williams said. Management believes the model could reduce manufacturing time and treatment costs, although those potential benefits have not been demonstrated clinically.

The program expands BriaCell’s cell-based immunotherapy pipeline beyond breast and prostate cancer. Its lead Bria-IMT program is currently being evaluated in a pivotal Phase 3 metastatic breast cancer trial, while Bria-PROS+ recently received FDA clearance to enter clinical evaluation in prostate cancer.

Melanoma remains a significant treatment area. The American Cancer Society estimates that approximately 112,000 new cases of melanoma and 8,510 related deaths will occur in the United States during 2026.

Upcoming Catalysts

  • Additional development and manufacturing work for Bria-MEL+
  • Disclosure of preclinical, regulatory or clinical-development plans
  • Possible regulatory submissions required before human testing
  • Continued progress in BriaCell’s broader cell-immunotherapy pipeline
